Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can occur after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. Symptoms may not appear until several months or even years later. Approximately 5.2 million people will suffer from PTSD in the course of a given year. Symptoms must last for at least 4 weeks.

Symptoms Include:

• Nightmares
• Severe Anxiety
• Uncontrollable Thoughts of Past Traumatic Events
• Emotional Numbness
• Difficulty Sleeping
• Feeling Jumpy
• Persistent Fear, Horror, Guilt or Shame
• Reckless of Destructive Behavior
• Hyper-Vigilance
• Loss of Interest in Things You Used to Enjoy
• Isolation
• Avoidance of Certain Places or Situations that Remind You of the Event

These symptoms can negatively affect relationships with family and friends and can impact job performance.
